Kidding ourselves

May 9, 2012

As I was reading about Obama being for gay marriage before he was against it – among other things that he’s flip flopped on, two thoughts came to mind

1) wow. What a non event that he’ll say whatever he thinks will get him just enough electoral votes “with a little help from his voter registration friends”.

2) Are the voting blocks he’s pandering to really that stupid to believe that Obama really cares about their issues? Really people. He doesn’t care – he wants your vote, and if pretending to care is enough to get your vote – he’ll care as long as he has to. Isn’t there a Meatloaf song that talks about the same dynamic occurring in the lights of a car dash? Yeah baby. He’ll love you forever he’ll make you his wife and whatever

But, as a friend has pointed out – I’m more ‘atheist’ than true believer & judge people’s real attitudes by weighing their actions and outcomes vs. their words. It’s shocking how many people throughout the years have asked me later “how did you know it was time to get out?” when the outcomes were clear if you were willing to watch the actions instead of listening to the words….

So, African american vote – he’s assumed you’re a lock and won’t vote against him because he looks like you. He shares none of your experiences (unless you did a number of things including attending prep school in Hawaii on your grandmother’s dime who funded your education from her Bank VP paycheck).

Everyone else? He’ll love you – he’ll love you forever, he really needs your vote, he will make you his wife  he’ll never leave you – he’ll make you happy for the rest of your life….

Where are african americans going to go–to a guy who parades around with a birther? From the point-of-view of basic, rational self-interest, a person with an ethnic background will not vote for a guy who tacitly embraces nativism hostile to that background.

I think he is trying to space out these non-issue announcements to keep voters’ minds off the economy. Biden apparently threw off his timing some. The distractions continue dredging up all manner of things in Romney’s past. However, note that the MSM doesn’t say anything about Obama’s past. Hmm. I am cranky because I am genuinely worried about the effect of the energy, tax and other Keynsian policies on the continuing weakening economy.

hey, it might be an unpleasant reality – but why didn’t he just say what he believed in the first place? Side note – to some extent it’s the nature of politics. Think Pontius Pilate “truth. What is truth?” political operators aren’t new, or limited to one side of the aisle or the other. I just want them to admit it

Wow, you get cranky when you’re tired.
