A couple thoughts from up in the air…

May 5, 2012

…Wow, I really don’t think that California’s and the Federal government are going to back down from building a high-speed rail.  For every lawsuit, screaming session, and budget woe, these guys are plugging along.  I hate the possible outcome, but I always have to respect a determined effort at anything.  On the bright side, there are lots of jobs that will keep the locals occupied for a while.  On the downside, those jobs cost a lot.  Choose your side and admire the effort…

…It’s very rare that Lynn and I both have a similar-enough schedule that we just drop out.  That would be this week.   To those of you who read this blog, (I’d say something like “Hi, Mom,” but there’s really zero chance that my mother would ever read a blog.) we expect better of ourselves…

…I was in the greater Phoenix area for work and friends, and I do have nostalgia from my time there.  I had two days with a good friend, and I relize that I’m much smarter for the time spent.  Iron sharpens iron…

…This plane is totally packed, late, and it’s a Saturday… so we have a mix of amateur and the pros at traveling.  There was one guy left off the first-class upgrade list.  Sac/Y, I feel for you, I’ve been there…

…I could easily convince myself to go see The Avengers.  I won’t try…

…Oh, and the title should probably be underlined per proper English rules.  The Internet actually messes with the basic rules of writing.  That’s change….

…One of my favorite things to tell high-school students if I get a chance: “Don’t believe Hollywood, please.  Any company that kills either its employees or its customers won’t stay in business for very long.” …

…If you never caught the story:  Alaska Airlines used to have little cards they’d hand on in first class with verses from Psalms on them.  A couple months ago, they pulled them due to some form of pressure.  Most of the flight attendants are still unhappy about it.  This is one reason I fly Alaska…

…The first-class upgrade didn’t hurt, either…

…Had to say it…

…There are guidelines that can be given in any business as to general policy that can result in things.  I look at the prices in the stock market, and I think that some guidelines about buying and nudging things up a bit were permitted to be a bit more aggressive.  The good news if true is that a potential economic draw-back might not be as bad as it could be.  I’m just sayin’…

…The US is full of smart people who act independently of the flow when it’s potentially important.  I’m sure there are other places where that’s true.  Right now, I’m most happy that it’s here…

…I love my wife.  I can’t, and don’t, say that enough to enough people…

…For those of you wondering, she only occasionally reads the blog…
