Surely, you understand, don’t you?

March 29, 2012

There are certain managers who run organizations like dicators in banana republics. As long as there are no imminent threats, the masses & military can be placated with well placed demagoguery or bribes and the dictator continues staying at the Four Seasons when traveling overseas, there’s an uneasy internal peace.

That said, the minute there are shortages – food, oil, money, water – you never see the leader (or dictator) pulling in THEIR lifestyle. Sacrifice is for schleps – ‘you understand that I can’t be expected to live in anything other than a 4000 square foot mansion – and I can’t give up the servants who clean…so therefore we’ll have to cut you loose/let YOU starve”

Real Clear Politics: Outside the Beltway, polling indicates a massacre of Senate Democrats is in the offing in the 2012 elections….Ever since the GOP victory of 2010, Obama has emulated Harry Truman in attacking the “do-nothing Congress” — a theme that underscored Truman’s 1948 reelection. But has Obama noticed that half of Congress is Democratic? In an effort to avoid appearing partisan, the president attacked “Congress” without distinguishing the House from the Senate or the members of his own party from the opposition….

he has inflicted massive harm on his own party.

And we’re surprised? This is not the S.S.  “captain who goes down with the ship” – the Chicago Way, as first created by the Mafia involved a code. The code basically says that the top dog is the last guy to fall – the outer rings (hired guns) are the first fall guy. As the pressure mounts, successful circles fall – cousin Vinny, Aunt Angie, son in law Joey…and so it goes with the top dog continuing life as he knew it for as long as possible.

But hey, Senators – as long as he and those closest to him get to keep THEIR residence and ‘lifestyle they have become accustomed to’- you understand that you have to sacrifice for HIS cause, right?

Part of the “Old Chicago Way” was ensuring that the people who replaced the ones tossed out were as comfortable in the system as the old ones. I don’t have a ton of positive things to say about Congress in general… maybe part of the calculus is that rolling out a set of people just enables the administration to demagogue the new ones while simultaneously getting them all the old perks.

By the way, congress was an example. There are plenty of other places that only replace the old with the same old.

IIRC he also told them to not count on any DNC money for campaigning.
