Lesson Learned

November 22, 2011

Okay, I had to get this one in.  A Massachusetts fisherman recently had a nearly 900 pound tuna snag on his nets while fishing.  The fisherman has permits to catch tuna, though tuna are supposed to be caught only with a rod and reel.  So what happens when nearly $400k of tuna come to dock?

Federal fishery enforcement agents seized the fish when the crew returned to port Nov. 12.

Rafael had tuna permits, but was told catching tuna with a net is illegal. They must instead be caught with rod and reel.

The lesson?

Rafael might give up his tuna permits, saying they’re apparently worthless.
Well, I’d call that a lesson learned.   Thanks, feds!

It also sounds like someone needs to tuna permit to the circumstances.

Sounds like a Hemingway novel gone bad…
