Capitulation takes all forms…

Next up…Poland?

Los Angeles officials have offered Occupy L.A. protesters a package of incentives that includes downtown office space and farmland in an attempt to persuade them to abandon their camp outside of City Hall, according to several demonstrators who have been in negotiations with the city.

….Lafferty said city officials have offered protesters a $1-a-year lease on a 10,000-square-foot office space near City Hall. He said officials also promised land elsewhere for protesters who wish to farm, as well as additional housing for the contingent of homeless people who joined the camp

Get the sense they’d try offering up catnip (“here kitty kitty”) or go as far as Poland (“take Poland and the Czecks – just leave us alone”)? Sort of ironic that the Nazi party and communist party have joined in….

The controversy in UC Davis is pretty astonishing too. Let’s verbally threaten police, surround them, link arms and then refuse to let them out. Then we’ll cry “help help! We’re being repressed” because someone just HAPPENED to have a video camera and internet feed so they can post the predictable police reaction on facebook. Same with the 84 year old woman – wasn’t she the one asking the police to arrest her “if I poke you in the eye, would you arrest me?”

Bullying and thuggery – standing up to them makes the “shoot’em up ‘give them what was coming to the more powerful violent thug” movies popular (besides, what would Steven Segal or Vin Diesel do for a living otherwise?). Clearly more of this kind of story is necessary:

From Boston via Hot Air

“I told you to get out of here,” she screams at me. “I won’t say it again. What’s wrong with you? It’s none of your business.”

This time I respond. “I’m a citizen of the United States, I am on public property, and I am doing nothing wrong,” I tell her. She fumes, but goes away.

Then some older occupier, pretending to sweep the sidewalk, sweeps a whole bunch of debris up on to my pants. It was hard, but I ignore him.

Other people are now watching EMS do their job as well, with one young guy taking pictures. Another occupier comes over and, in a threatening voice, orders him to stop. “Bite me,” the shutterbug calmly tells the occupier. “Last time I looked, this is America pal.”

Pepper-sprayed UC students are quite proud of themselves, actually:

I don’t understand why disruptive students need to be enrolled. We are not talking freedom of speech here (not that it exists on campus anyway), but of privilege to disrupt.

Yea, the older lady (and even the pregnant girl, though wonder what she was thinking about her kid) were clearly there for a reason, and the consequences they suffered were pretty much intended on their part. I wonder at the use of pepper spray on the students at Berkeley, but that’s a situation that’s already a caricature of realtiy, so we won’t know.

But now that the cities are offering incentives to leave, the occupiers know they don’t have to leave. They can just wait for the city to accede to all their demands, and everything is fine.

I just saw a note that the pregnant lady who was pepper sprayed has miscarried. I pray for her loss.
