Who’s the Butt of the Joke?

November 21, 2011

Michael Northop started a post of jokes about OWS.  The best, I thought was the first, but go over, check them out, and add if you have some.

Out of money, an OWS protester uses an ATM and it asks if he will accept a $1 fee. He knows the money will just go to a greedy, corrupt bank. Does he hit “Yes”?
Sure, it’s his parents’ card anyway.

For me, this starts to signal a couple things.  First, most conservatives are ceasing to point out the self-parody and they’re doing more in terms of pointing out the parody of the whole movement.  It’s easy to point to a story where one nut-job is doing something wrong, but it’s more telling when you can broadly paint the movement enough to make a joke.

Second, conservatives can find humor in what they disagree with.  I haven’t seen a ton of funny little jokes about Tea Partys, even though the possibility exists…

How many Tea Partiers does it take to change a light bulb?

One, but only after he says the pledge and takes the trek to his secret stash of incandescents.

Yes, I know it’s bad, but you get the point.  Anyway, much of what I still see on the Tea Party from the Left is either undisguised or thinly disguised hatred, along with cries of any slander that can diminish the movement.  On the Right, we mostly point out the absurdity of an OTT movement that still can’t articulate a problem after two months.

Let the jokes flow.  I’m all for showing how different we can be.

Updated:  Thanks to Edge of the Sandbox and Keith for the links.  I just report in this case… okay, and open up the forum for jokes.

Why should you always spell it as lower-case “ows”?

    Because they hate capitalism.

How can you tell whether you’re at a Tea Party or OWS gathering?

One burns with national pride and waves the flag.

The other waives national pride and burns the flag.
