Oops. were those facts out loud?!?

November 23, 2010

I made a huge tactical error tonight. At dinner, I pointed out to someone who I believe to be more libertarian than liberal the perspective that

  1. I don’t think they need to move to Canada, because I don’t see Palin winning the presidency
  2. It can’t be much worse than Obama, because frankly the amount of governing experience between the two of them was about equal

they were ok with #1, and not good with #2. Dinner ended somewhat abruptly.

From Hot Air, I am not sure that Palin is obsessed with being president, and has in fact, given a key to how to get her to bow out of the race. Frankly, I can’t come up with a good reason why she would want to run vs. making money from the running commentary she’s giving today about either side of the aisle. It’s much easier to simply comment on the unintended consequences of current policy (ask yours truly) than it is to be the governing body creating it.

But – to her critics – if you’re serious about the political qualifications and experience required – would you take the time to obsess or write this kind of crap that folks like Patterico and Hot Air comment on? DWTS, Palin’s Alaska, blah blah blah and “neener neener neener”

for all the complaining about “celebrity obsessed morons” we seem to have a lot of them attempting to write “politically serious stuff”

it was a bit weird. I thought about it later and realized that I wasn’t expressing a conservative point of view on anything prior to that, and in fact, wasn’t saying she was great and Obama was a loser. Just that when both were running in 2008, they had nearly equivalent levels of experience running anything or governing. That’s just what the data said….but I’m being rude to point it out? This is a weird world we live in when you can get offended at inconvenient data pointed out by someone who wasn’t coming across as Glenn Becks’ biggest fan,…

Ha! Sorry to laugh at an awkward moment. But isn’t it a shame how defensive that person had to be?
