Not quite delusional enough…

September 9, 2010

In 2008, after the election the liberal pundits and press celebrated our populaces’ enlightenment. The small minded people had finally decided to be enlightened by handing the entire legislative body to the party of liberal largesse. We had finally overcome racism, we had overcome world domination, we had overcome …GWB. A brave, new progressive age had begun

“We won” and “let no crisis go to waste” became the operative words. After all, the democratic party had been given A MANDATE in HOPE for CHANGE! (queue the angelic voices, spotlight beams shining from on high to gently light the  noble brow of the elected one..)

In an earlier blog post from early 2009 I speculated that the progressives really were “despot-light” because the whole military shooting stuff was just icky and ruined the MAN-icures. In other words, I’m not quite sure the chutzpah of Lenin and Castro are present (even in Castro these days)  unless of course they’re in league with a new kind of mafioso (from Michelle Malkin). There are a few organizations who might fit the bill (examples here & here) –  but we’re hardly talking Iran’s revolutionary guard…

One of the interesting dynamics in any ‘despotic regime’ is the somewhat delusional characteristics of the public statements made by the leadership. Korea has their “Dear Leader”, Venezuela has their claims about US tetonic weapons (seriously)…paranoid & delusional seem to go with the territory.

That’s reason #2 where regardless of how bad it looks (“it’s a free country. I wish it weren’t”) , the current elite really are “despot lite”. Instead of being truly delusional & calling the voters who don’t like the democratic policies aliens and klingons who carry brain zappers hence we have to bring out the military to hunt them down & eliminate them – the elites are geting petulant and calling the  now unenlightened voters “spoiled brats”.

Most despots don’t care who dislikes them – at least not for very long. Certainly not long enough to write so many despondant, angry statements like a 13 year old’s journal:

Washington Examiner: No good deed goes unpunished,” says Jonathan Alter, who agrees with Dionne, who agrees with Joe Klein this has all been historic, and who all urged Obama to be still more heroic by dissing the voters to follow their dream. ….

They might not like us, but they really expected us to applaud and like ALL their ideas, and they’re very hurt that we don’t.

It’s the anger and disappointment of the true believer who cannot accept that his message of absolute truth can be rejected. Therefore it must be the work of the devil/republicans/Sarah Palin/the tea party.

Yes, as of right now they’re content to whine and still care what people think of them. They want to be admired & when they aren’t, they are hurt, so HURT!!!!
The danger appears from the enforcers – not the elites, looking at examples from the IRA, mafia, Teamsters, Rome prior to Caesar (big street gang problem). The Black panther case was problematic, but there isn’t a paramilitary org with government issued weapons and orders from the top at this point in time….Rome had the Praetorian guard that operated in this manner (who were often the Emporer makers and Emporer “un-makers”)

That VDH article was really good, wasn’t it? Reckon I’ll just be grateful that, as of right now, the left is only despot-lite, without enough delusion to go “full-despot.”

They really did think that, with Dems in control of both houses and executive, Utopia would just magically begin, didn’t they? Like, with hand-holding and song-singing, and birds landing on their shoulders and stuff.

    Cheers.
