From a different blog that I stumbled on by pure accident. If this sounds familiar, well, there’s an unexpected twist at the end
He came out of nowhere but you still voted for him because you wanted change. Between you and me, at first you could hardly spell his full name.Somehow he managed to win the elections and become President. He did appeal to the masses. He talked a lot even without saying anything meaningful. He had made lots of promises, but didn’t deliver any of them.When he became president, instead of doing anything to improve the situation of the people, he did everything to improve his own position so that he could stay in power. He was supposed to stand for the little guy, but the big corporations he preached against were the ones he benefited instead. Kids would chant his name in schools like some mantra……..(read more for the surprise ending…)
I suggest you read the whole thing. Whether we’re in for another FDR (think they amend the amended constitution so we get 4 terms instead of 2?) – or a Kirchner like figure, or simply Spain – life will certainly change as we know it.
A friend in France mentioned that her daughters were leaving – thanks to the European Union, they can migrate to Belgium to set up their companies. A 65% tax rate to support those who won’t look for work apparently doesn’t inspire the entrepeneurs. My friend in question is thinking about not working any longer – what’s the point? She gets up early, stays at work late – her life is to support the state, which supports others who won’t seek work.
Whether a sudden drop, or a long slow drift….we do get the government we deserve, and no country is entitled to permanent prominence. That said, when the English lords who drove out the Rothschilds and Kennedys from Ireland thought they got rid of trouble makers, they really drove out some incredible innovators – to the benefit of a different nation than their own.
Innovators will be innovators – if they are unwelcome in one nation, then another nation earns the benefits of their labors.
Finding Ponies... 
England kicking out people is idfferent from here. We’re highly unlikely to drive out innovators so they can innovate elsewhere. They’ll likely just never innovate. We’ll fall behind through ennui, not loss.
That said, I still think the nation will survive. I just worry about the cost of survival.
well, there’s Sweden, Switzerland, Australia and New Z….oh, and the UK seems to be behaving itself more lately…
Here’s another thing that makes me go hmm. Heaven help you if you are a business that has to lay off workers due to Obamacare, looming tax hikes, more regulations, etc. Be prepared to be called racist, unamerican or worse by the loony left.
agree Ellen. I have wondered if there were echoes of that in the shift in German politics from WWI to WWII, but frankly I haven’t had the nerve to look into it for fear of what I might find. Fascism isn’t the Nazi party, it was state driven corporatism & capitalism, no?
I hate to admit it, but I had to look up the economic policies associated with fascism. I agree with one article that characterized it as socialism masquerading as capitalism. We are still a ways away from total centralized control, but creeping ever closer. GM is probably the closest to that model.
