well, at least SOMEONE votes with their feet…
remember all the progressives who said they’d move to Canada if “W” got re-elected - and how they never left? (DRAT!)
At least the special interest groups they claim to serve in hopes of locking in a voting block like they did with feminists and unions have enough sense to vote with their feet. “Citizenship isn’t worth living with the consequences of your policies, and frankly, I can be under-unemployed at HOME thank you very much…”.
Between 2005 and 2010, roughly 1.4 million Mexicans moved back to Mexico from the U.S. Douglas Massey, a professor of sociology and public affairs at Princeton University, thinks the trend is permanent: “I think the massive boom in Mexican immigration is over and I don’t think it will ever return to the numbers we saw in the 1990s and 2000s.”
I have no idea if this is the case or not, but seriously. The grand meta-narrative of trying to reclaim their rightful lands from Texas or Arizona or California really doesn’t mean a lot to people who have to face a simply “return on risk and investment” equation. If they make more money with less risk -most people will move once the risks get too high and the return on the investment gets too low.
Another “oopsie” consequence of the economic policies
