Anakin Skywalker loses himself…An open letter

The Star Wars stories show an interesting progression where Anakin Skywalker morphs from a Jedi apprentice into everything that he swore to fight - destroying everything and everyone he loved along the way. Anakin takes a series of seemingly expedient short cuts - all with good intentions. Ultimately, bad methods destroy good intentions & he finds himself moving from fighting side by side with Obi-wan Kenobi to nearly strangling to death Padme – whom he supposedly made all these short-cut choices to protect - and trying to kill Obi-wan.  Anakin truly believed that he was protecting the people he loved even as each choice he made took him closer and closer to destroying them.

With that, an open letter to the House of Representatives  Skywalker

Congratulations to our House of representatives Skywalker…you have been the most transparent government – we had a clear view into all the profiteering, vote buying, protection money exchanging hands, and your disdain for the voters you took an oath to represent.

A special note of congratulations to those baby-boomer era representatives Skywalkers: You have gone from John Lennon and talk of overthrowing “The man” to bringing mafia-style clampdowns and House of Bourbon disdain to those who voted for you and to the generations who have to STILL listen to you drone on about the good old 60′s. Once again, you’ve spouted lots of talk about good intentions & have made no real accomplishments within the principles you somehow think you still adhere to. Well done.

Congratulations to women like Pelosi and “don’t call me Ma’am” Boxer: Your aggressive exportation of ‘family planning’ to other cultures who practice selective sex abortions has been single handedly responsible for the termination of the lives of millions of women worldwide. Pat yourself on the back for all that accomplishes and will accomplish to ‘benefit’ women in the years to come in this legislation. You own it.

Congratulations to the democrats in general: Like the Roman senate during the rule of Augustus Caesar, you have made a series of what seemed like expedient choices that were intended for good, during a period where it seems there are no politicians who would completely abuse your precendent of changing rules mid-stream to establish far reaching laws with long term consequences. You’ve set it up nicely for the potential tyrant who comes sometime later, just in time to take advantage of your well intended disrespect for following due process…do either “Caligula” or “Nero” ring a bell?

Like Anakin Skywalker, you have listened to someone whispering in your ear that it’s all for the good - it’s all for peace – people will appreciate the sacrifices you’ve made once it’s all over. You have traded yourselves choice by choice – and will put at risk the principles, practices, and people who you believed you were benefitting.

Like Anakin Skywalker – you have generated a resistance movement. We know you became Darth Vader on a series of poor choices using the excuse of good intentions. The resistance might be scrappy, it might be exiled in hiding to a desert planet for years…but it won’t disappear – and in the end – like Anakin – the unintended consequence of the resistance is that the resistance standing against you might in the end save you from the dark self that you have become.
